Colombia travel after Covid

Are you thinking about making a trip to Colombia? Then continue reading!

Colombia is a popular tourist destination and a great place to visit. It offers various landscapes, climates, and activities for everyone. Whether you want to enjoy the coast and beaches, hiking or climbing in the mountains, exploring cities and their culture, or just relax on a lakeside, Colombia has it all. Other then it’s natural beuties, Colombia has one of the nicest and friendliest people you have met.

Is Colombia a safe destination?

Sadly, due to it’s history and how this country is portrayed in movies and series, such as Narcos, western people often think bad of it. That it is a dangerous destination full of drug cartels, and that you are going to get robbed or kidnapped on every corner. However, that is not true at all and the local people are sad knowing what others think of their amazing country. Sure, it is still a country where you can get robbed, but where can’t you? As long as you follow the local saying “No dar papaya,” are careful and behave normally, there is nothing to fear.

Colombia travel after the pandemic – what do you need?

And so how is traveling here in 2022, after coronavirus made it almost impossible to travel for so long? Very easy!

Colombia welcomes tourists from all over the world and all you need is either a valid covid vaccine or a test and a visa if you’re coming from a country where it is needed. However, most western countries do not need visa for stays up to 90 days. The only think to get your stamp at the airport is some proof that you plan to leave the country, it can be a flight ticket back home, to another country, or just a bus ticket to Ecuador or any other neighboring country. And if during your stay, you decide you want to stay longer? No problem! You just visit one of the immigration offices and prolong your stay for a little fee. For this, I recommend visiting the office in one of the smaller cities, since less people will be there and you will not wait so long like in Bogotá or Medellín.

When you are flying to Colombia, you will most likely arrive to the El Dorado airport in Bogotá. This is a huge airport and the traffic to get out is crazy even at 3am, trust me. To get out of the airport, the easiest thing is to just take a taxi, which is about 3-5 euros. You can either hail one right there, or order it through app such as Uber or Cabify or Didi. When in the big cities, it is sometimes cheaper to take a taxi than go through the experience of taking th public transportation. Even though, that can be an experience of its own. But about that in the next post. The Ubers are very cheap and reliable option. It is recommended to take them instead of the local ones, since they are known for driving the longest route possible to make the ride longer and therefore making you pay more than necessary.

So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags, book your ticket and get here, and I promise, you will not regret!

See you in Colombia!
