SIM card:
Make sure to buy a SIM card inside the airport. Outside the airport, mobile internet can be unreliable or not work properly at first.
Bars and clubs scams:
Be careful when visiting fancy bars or clubs. You may meet very attractive girls (often foreign tourists) who will ask you to buy very expensive tequila shots. Many of them work on commission with the bar owners. They usually get free entry, while you may have to pay a high entrance fee and overpriced drinks.
Money & payments:
Be careful with money exchange and card payments. Always check your bank statement or payment notification after each transaction so you know exactly what you are being charged.
Vehicle rentals:
Avoid rental scams—you may end up paying much more than expected. Make sure you have a valid driving license. For renting a motorbike, you need an A or A1 license, depending on the engine size. It’s safer to book through a booking website because they have better control over local rental shops. If something goes wrong, you can report the issue, and the rental shop may get suspended.
In Bali, you can try Book2Wheel.com for renting cars and motorbikes. It works like Airbnb—you rent from private owners instead of rental companies, and it’s usually cheaper.
Hotels & long stays:
Before booking a hotel for a long stay, try to stay one night first. Many places have construction nearby, and noise can be a big issue. It’s better to test the place before paying the full amount for a long-term stay.
